2025 BRENT KNOLL BOWL

A later start in the year for the 2025 Brent Knoll Bowl. The old Cranleighans field a team of youth mixed with experience, team B Carr, J Wilkinson, F Moore, G Pickford, J Boyle and C Moore. With the skipper battling Norovirus for the weekend, reducing the Cranleigh bar deficit by 15% spirits were high for the 5 and a half man team.

First round we drew the Buckthorns a local side comprising of one of the professionals and some solid golfers came up against the mighty pairings of, JF Boyle & GO Pickford, JSF Wilkinson & BHP Carr and CD Moore & FC Moore. Sadly the Buckthrons prevailed leaving us to do battle in the plate. Round 2 against the Wighorns and a pair switch from Captain Moore, new pairings, JF Boyle & GO Pickford, JSF Wilkinson & FC Moore and CD Moore & BHP Carr. Top Pair win 4&3, pair 2 lose on 18 leaving a nail bitting finish with Pair 3. With the match 1 up in OC favour on 17, B Carr steps up and hits a majestic Iron into the heart of the fearsome 220 yard par 3, Wighorns can not follow suit and hit a wayward shot into the front right bunker. The Wighorns splash out to 15ft. Nerves are jangling and CD Moore has a 40ft Birdie put downhill down wind which is put to within inches and the 3 is conceded. Wighorns then have 15 feet to tie, and force down 18. Which as with most OC opponents they hole out. On to 18, with a pure drive down and a pure iron shot into the heart of the 18th Green from the OC’s the Wighorns were having too much fun in the Burnham foliage and conceded the 18th.

The OC’s make another Semi! Pairings kept the same with the magic formula expecting to another victory. ALAS the Leather Jackets fielding their all-star squad were a strong force, taking our top pair down 2&1 our 3rd pair followed suit with a 3&2 loss. However 2nd pair had a convincing 5&4 win. 

A fantastic weekend as always, very well played team! A special thanks to my partners who had to deal with my groaning, moaning and illness throughout the weekend.
