2019 HALFORD HEWITT REPORT
We took to the tee on Thursday morning, supported by a magnificent throng of OC’s, from the triumvirate of Rosenberg/Sweetland/Parry to the effervescent Bobby Stovold. The colour quickly drained from Craig Moore’s normally glowing complexion as he realised he and Harry Millburn Fryer at 4th pair would face Ampleforth’s superstar, +4.5 handicap and Walker Cup […]
2018 HALFORD HEWITT REPORT
The Old Cranleighans embarked upon our 2018 campaign with enthusiasm. A young team (arguably the youngest of any school with only 2 of the team were over 32), strengthening each year with new talent and, somewhat unusually a favourable draw (lets not forget we had Eton first round last year). First round Our campaign commenced […]
2017 MATCHPLAY FINAL
Garrett O’Reilly secured the matchplay trophy for a second time with a thrilling comeback against Adam Willson at Sunningdale. At 3 up on the 15th tee Adam felt in control, but Garrett put in a blistering finish to turn the game on its head winning 1up.
GRAFTON MORRISH 2017
This week we played in the finals of the Grafton Morrish. First up at 8am on Friday was Oundle at Brancaster. We had a very close match but in the end all 3 Cranleigh pairs won the crunch holes down the stretch to get the win. Richards/Whitty – 2/1 Pickford/Boyle – 1 up Riddiford/Moore C […]
2017 HALFORD HEWITT – REPORT
The OCs approached the 2017 Halford Hewitt with a cautious optimism. On the one hand we were fielding one of strongest teams for years, although that optimism was tempered by the knowledge that we were facing Eton, 12 time winners, victorious in both 2013 and 2015. Sadly the OCGS curse of ill health/injury forced the […]
GRAFTON MORRISH 2016
The OCGS played in the Grafton Morrish finals at Hunstanton last weekend. We fielded a strong team which mixed seasoned players with some of the younger players, two of whom were rookies in this competition. We were drawn against Bury Grammar in the first round. On a perfect day for golf, Cranleigh made a fast […]
Halford Hewitt 2016 – Report
Following on from last year’s run to the quarter finals the OCGS squad went into the 2016 campaign in an optimistic mood. The stats supported this assertion – Cranleigh are the most improved school over the last 10 years. The draw in January pitted us against the 2014 winners, Merchiston, and things became more concerning […]
Queen Elizabeth Coronation Schools Tournament 2015
We again entered the Queen Elizabeth Coronation Schools Tournament played at the Royal Burgess Golf Club in Edinburgh. In the first round we drew the home team, Edinburgh Academicals who we know well as we share the same accommodation at the Hewitt. We won the first pair comfortably with Marc Sadler playing some excellent golf […]
The Autumn Meeting 2015
We had an excellent day at West Surrey yesterday thanks to David Willis for organising everything and to the President of West Surrey, Robin Sitwell, for making sure we were made very welcome (including the price they charged and the generous supply of the lunchtime wine). 70 degree sunshine was also well planned. The […]
