2024 MELLIN REPORT

We had a fantastic week at the Mellin.

Firstly in the Bunny Millard (over 75s) Derek Lyons and Mickey Moore played very well but narrowly failed to qualify for the knockout stage.

Then in the Peter Burles (over 65s) our team lost very narrowly to Shrewsbury in the first round and then in the Plate beat Downside and Bedford (some sort of revenge!!) and then lost in the final to Aldenham.  Well done Martin Riddiford, Richard Williams, John Schofield and Jeremy Weller.

In the Mellin (over 55s) we lost a very close match to Shrewsbury in the first round 2-1.  They have made 30 Mellin finals winning 15 so very much the top Mellin side.

In the first round of the plate we beat  Downside and in the semi final Loretto and in the final we had a real nail biter.  Steve Isaac had come in as a late reserve for the semi but failed his fitness test for the final so after an anxious half hour we managed to get hold of Colin Ferguson who stepped in to play with Matthew Hansford.

Ian Darby and Andrew Staples had completed their 4th win out of 4 and Paul Tidey and I had lost our game so it came down to Matthew and Colin.  It went all the way and in to extra holes where Matthew dispatched a great drive and Colin knocked it on the green and a solid two putt won us the Plate final.  Well done to everyone that played and it was fantastic to retain our Plate title but next year we are definitely after the main Mellin title.
