We played in the BKB at Burnham & Berrow at the weekend. It had been pushed back from March. Up against The Army in the first round was a very tough draw. All 6 of their players were scratch or better. We lost 2.5 to 0.5 – good effort by Harry MF and Matthew Hansford to get a half.
Plate first round was against the Wighorns. On debut for the OCs Josh Wilkinson played excellently to partner me to an easy win to leave it all down to the Hs again. Great birdie putt by Matthew at 15 took them one up, excellent half at 17 took it down the last where Matthew held from 12 foot for the win against a good pair. Sunday morning saw us up against the Warwickshire Bears. 3 very solid pairs and we went down 2-1 in a good game.
Congrats to Matthew and Harry on an unbeaten weekend and great to have a youngster like Josh coming to play for us. Many thanks to Martin for a very well organised and enjoyable weekend.
Just a quick reminder that we play Marlborough at 0745 (early night boys!) on Thursday 9 September at Princes in the Halford Hewitt. All supporters very welcome.
Message from Burnham below:
Dear all, I’m sure you are all just recovering from last week end after another successful event. Despite the change of date which meant difficulties for some of you in finding suitable accommodation and the M5 travel issues, it was great to see you all again and it seems everyone thoroughly enjoyed the weekend. Your participation and sportsmanship is the key to the success of this traditional tournament and your teams were all a credit to you.
The atmosphere in the Clubhouse was fantastic, with a great support for the dinner on the Saturday evening. Thank you very much to you all for your continued support.
